Maroon Bells Colorado with mom at Crater Lake, over 10,000+ feet high. 4 miles roundtrip About Me I grew up in Northern California and as a kid I traveled a lot on family vacations to National Parks and other beautiful locations. In high school I got into B&W photography. After College I moved to Denver, CO and fell in love with hiking, getting really into it and did a little bit of backpacking. I went on many several day adventures to seek out more nature in the Colorado area. Since most of it was on my own I didn't do much backpacking. When with friends I didn't bring my heavy film camera from the 70's, since it would just slow me down even more. Now I have a really nice 20 MP Digital SLR camera that is pretty light although bulky but I don't have many people to hike with and a leg that is still healing. 20 years ago I was in a severe snowboarding injury and suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury. Several months after I learned how to walk again but slow to regain hiking. Thats when I got a DSLR camera and got to be creative and not spend the money on film and developing. The second summer afterwards I went on a backpacking trip with some friends that were very accommodating for me helping carry equipment and such. Even missing a ligament I was still able to cross a small creek on a fallen tree. (see pic below). I had my trekking pole but obviously didn't use it crossing on the tree. With a new digital SLR camera I had quality images and the ability to edit in Photoshop which I learned pretty good. I don't really edit very much just mainly bringing out detail in areas that are lacking pop or attention to detail. I went on a Photo workshop led by John Fielder a famous nature photographer in Colorado. I told him about my injury so he knew my limitations of my memory and going slow because of my knee. At the end I told him that I went to visit the ski patrol where I had my injury and brought my homemade pizza to share with them. I make the dough and did it all from scratch, except making the toppings. I went to his gallery a week later and said hi where I asked him if he would like to try some of my homemade pizza. (I had nothing to lose). Many months later he came over and I cooked a couple pizza and then asked near the end if he had any openings at his gallery. Whoa! He talked to the director of the gallery as he was the owner and wasn't running day to day operations. So I went in for an interview and got a job as a gallery assistant. After working there a year or so he invited me on a couple workshops for free to learn more. Later he asked me if I wanted to go backpacking. Hmmmm, let me think. :). I said yes and he brought 2 llamas to carry the load since I couldn't carry much and he was getting older (60's). It was a 3 night adventure and I think 25 miles total. Ten years ago I moved to Massachusetts to be closer to some family. I haven't been able to go on as many hikes recently as I don't know very many nature photography friends so I have been to many local parks that are just around the city I live in Haverhill, MA. I had another knee surgery summer of 2023 and that was complicated but went well. So far I have been doing good with that and doing quite a few short hikes without many problems. Just recently however I am noticing that my balance is still off after my surgery so the unsteadiness is from my brain injury. :( I hope I can find many beautiful places that aren't too far up the trails. In the past I have done some hiking and even backing with an adaptive sports organization. 'Waypoint Adventures'. I did offer them my snowshoes that I own since I don't want to use them now because my knee is doing much better and I don't want to lose that. Here I am crossing a creek with some good friends. I had my good camera and a large day backpack with just the basics in it. I had some nice friends. On a backpacking trip with the llamas my friend John handed me the rope and said he would take a photo. I wasn't leading them on the trip at all but during the trip they acted very calm and just carried on and ate the grass they saw and drank water. No need to bring food for them and we were near creeks and streams. Luckily not too much need for crossing anything major. We were in the Rawah Wilderness in the Northern part of the Front Range of Colorado.

I am looking for a new website to work with that produces and ships directly to you. Let me know if you have interest in purchasing. Message me I'm also trying to work on getting a photo of the customers wall and putting my photo in the empty spot to scale. Then decide what color/style frame based on that. I can't eliminate bad wallpaper though. This shot is from a Planet Fitness gym I belong to. The only thing with this is that I did actually display my photo there a couple years ago before Covid19 happened. This is a good plain wall to start with. I'm not going to add text like 'relaxation zone' I can work with wallpaper such as posting something on top of it. Let me know.

Western This is a page of California, Utah and Hawaii mixed together. These are all high quality with either film or most with my DSLR. Minimal editing as I tend to go at the times they are less busy which is crucial in Yosemite National Park that seems to have two zip codes in the valley. Several of Yosemite National park where I had to leave out shots of Half Dome and El Capitan since the shots were taken with a point-n-shoot and not high pixels. Monument Valley in Arizona & Utah Beautiful sunset color with monument framed by gnarly tree and nearly black sky. No plans for this one, just happen to be at the right place at the right time. This was shot with film over 20 years ago. Monument Valley Camp You can drive through the canyon on your own but to hike and camp you need to go with their guides. I did it all on my own. My car stayed on the roads though. :). Overnight pulled off to the side in what looked kind of like a small parking area. Mesa Arch with Sunstar This is in beautiful Canyonlands National Park in Utah just a little north of Moab, UT. The arch sits right on the edge of a cliff going to the bottom. Its a great place as there is a confluence of the Green and Colorado Rivers which continue south toward Arizona. Mesa arch in the morning before sunrise. Everybody gets there right at sunrise to get the best pictures. I got there 10-15 minutes early and there was already a crowd lined up 10 ft from the arch. So I stepped to the right and got my awesome shot you see here with a sunstar. The underside of the arch which glows red or orange. Mesa Arch. My first shot of this arch when I was shooting film back in 2002. Amazing to the naked eye how welcome you are to this world. This arch is sitting at the rim of the canyon looking down at the Colorado River which you can't really see from 2,000 feet up. Another shot of Mesa Arch in the winter. Not many crowds then. In the winter there aren't as many crowds. Try to make it after a light dusting of snow or else things just look dead. Yosemite Falls A rainbow in the waterfall. It's not a full rainbow but you see the colors within the waterfall which is just as good if not better. This photo was shot with film about 22 years ago. Not sure exactly since I wasn't taking good notes back then. Yosemite Fall reflection in Yosemite Valley Plenty of grass along the rivers edge with calm water creating a great reflection. Merced River, Yosemite Valley A river with rapids up in the valley below the mountains. Yosemite Falls In Yosemite National Park and a reflection of the waterfall in the Merced River in May 2017. Makena State Park Maui, Hawaii at Makena State Park right on the beach with some rocks along the side.

Wildlife Here are some of my Wildlife photographs I have taken when living in Colorado 10-23 years ago and then a few out here in Massachusetts. Bighorn sheep Just outside Rocky Mountain National Park in a small town which is very wildlife friendlky. I think they have rules about which plants people can grow so they don't hurt the wildlife trying to keep them away from their garden. Llama This isn't technically wildlife as they were carrying our load on a backpacking trip through the wilderness for 3 nights. Deer Roxborough Park, foothills outside Denver, CO Deer Roxborough Park, foothills outside Denver, CO Deer Roxborough Park, foothills outside Denver, CO European Herring Gull Halibut Point State Park Rockport, MA Yellow-legged Gull and a Western Gull Halibut Point State Park Rockport, MA European Herring Gull Halibut State Park Rockport, MA Bighorn sheep near Estes Park, exploring the hillside Just outside Rocky Mountain National Park in a small town which is very wildlife conscious. I think they have rules about which plants people can grow so they don't hurt the wildlife by trying to keep them away from their garden. Bald Eagle Bald Eagle Along the Colorado River Black Bear This is in the Tenmile Range near Breckenridge with the bear wandering across a dirt road near some cabins. Moose in Front Range Mountains Within the Rawah Wilderness in the nothern park of the state. Black-capped Chickadee I was given bird seed at a wildlife area with tons of small birds around. I got my phone first and get it eating out of my hand literally. Sometimes I have gotten dogs to eat out of my hand too but that isn't much 'ooooh, ahhh' type of comments Black-capped Chickadee Nobody else is here. Black-capped Chickadee Let me see here, hmm Moose in Front Range Mountains, Colorado This is on Guenella Pass in the Front Range, at 11-12k feet below a couple 14ers where several trailheads sit nearby.

Colorado Here is my Colorado page. I moved to Colorado in 2001 after graduating college and discovered the wonderful world of wilderness in the mountains. I already had experience of nature photography but here is where I decided to get into it and do exploring myself. I did lots of hiking and camping with a little bit of backpacking to capture the wonders. I even became friends with John Fielder who was a an awesome professional Nature photographer himself and I learned a lot from him. We did several hikes and camping trips as well. One backpacking trips with two Llamas even, to carry our heavy load for 4 nights. In the first 4 years in Colorado I used slide film exclusively because of the cost of digital cameras and the technology wasn't there yet for pros to use. In 2005 I got my first DSLR. Colorado Columbine The state flower of Colorado. The focus is on the bright yellow stamen in the center of the flower Aspen Leaves Aspen leaves on the forest floor still with good color and some rain to top it off. Not something you see often are the colors while leaves are on the ground. Doesn't last once they are off the tree. Boulder Falls Early winter with the water flowing well but ice everywhere. Just outside the town of Boulder up into the foothills. Hallet Peak from Dream Lake Hallet Peak sits above Dream Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park. One of my favorite snowshoe hikes as it was relatively easy and not too busy if I went on a week day afternoon. Ice Lake, just over 12,000 ft Turquoise blue lake in the San Juan mountains above treeline and the only water going into the lake is the ice melt. Rock flour forms from finely ground rock which floats on the surface and reflects the blue sky above. Cottonwood Pass Sunset Camping near Cottonwood Pass in south central Colorado mountains. Pass is a little over 12,000 ft and only open in the summer and fall with great colors. I got this shot first then the camp one with my tent. Cottonwood Pass Camp Beautiful sunset where I set up camp just in time to get this photo. Pretty sure I did it in a hurry. The other shot I took first then 3 minutes later this shot. I love to get some shots of my tent in the majestic scenes I capture. A painter below the Maroon Bells mountains near Aspen, CO. If you look closely at the painting you can see the mountain if you know the Colorado mountains at all. Tent set up in the rugged mountains in the wilderness High up around 12,000 ft and below some 13ers Camp in wilderness Here is my tent in the wilderness on some of the only level ground nearby and minimal large rocks. Bald Eagle above river Bald Eagle above the Colorado River where we took a break and went up a hillside to get this shot. Moose This is a moose in the Front Range on Guanella Pass. Very large it stands above the brush for clear visibility Ice Lake in the San Juan mountains This area has several 13k ft peaks nearby. Rock flour forms as things begin to warm and glaciers melt, filling up the basin with water. The finely ground rock is so light that it floats near the lake's surface where it reflects the blue sky back to our eyes. Ice Lake, San Juan mountains This beautiful lake sits a little over 12,000 ft near Telluride. Rock flour forms as the glacier melts, filling up the basin with water. Without sun the surface looks a little blue but not bold turquoise. Wildflower hike near Breckenridge On a wildflower hike with my friend John Fielder. We are up in the mountains with some puffy gray clouds to make it interesting and better lighting Lower Cataract Lake area Nearby lower cataract lake in the central mountains. Sheep in Rocky Mountain National Park The sheep are very plentiful in the area roaming around near the visitors. Paradise Divide Just outside Crested Butte on a one way 4wd mountain pass. So beautiful with fall colors in the fall and spring flowers in early summer. Longs Moonset 2-3 days after the full moon I hiked up Twin Sisters with a friend before sunrise to capture the moon setting in the West right at dawn behind Longs Peak in the Front Range. Longs Peak Moonset Here is the moon setting right behind Mt Meeker which is directly beside Longs. You have to line up in advance so the moon is directly behind the peak itself....only problem comes when there is a cliff blocking the perfect location. A black bear just outside Breckenridge I was heading from my car to a cabin and saw the bear crossing the dirt road so I went to the edge of parking lot and snapped a few photos. It just crossed the road to the other side so no worries Paradise Divide cropped A briliant red color and reflection Calypso Orchid Beautiful wildflower with what seems in my mind as a nice smile with the black dots and then the petals as the smile. Francie's Cabin just outside Breckenridge This cabin is in the forest a little ways out of the ski town. Very historic and quaint. Full times taking the photo outside of the night sky for for 2 hrs. Someone turned on a light at 1:30am but thats fine. Windy Ridge Bristlecone Pine tree laying on its side This tree is several thousand years old and it survives the windy mountain ridge with its extreme ruggedness

Unique nature photographs, prints, wildflowers, mountains, Colorado New England Western Wildlife Hiking & Camping Welcome I have a passion for nature. Its so soothing and can be very calm to help break away from everyday life in the real world of chaos. Even with other visitors it can still be relaxing with families playing and discovering new things. Teaching others is rewarding by looking for a different perspective and go to the other side of the meadow. This photograph is from a local park nearby at Kenoza Lake in Haverhill, MA that I have been hiking at pretty frequently since graduating from my rehab after my knee surgery which was in 2023. Now I am finding more places and going with some friends as well. Winter comes and I am not going to snowshoe because of everything I have gone through. I think I will donate my snowshoes to an adaptive sports business if I can go on a backpacking trip for disabled participants. I want to take take 'star trails' photos which are 45+ minute exposures. You can see some examples on my site so click on the hiking and camping link. Give some feedback Fill in as little or as much as you wish.
