Maroon Bells Colorado with mom at Crater Lake, over 10,000+ feet high. 4 miles roundtrip About Me I grew up in Northern California and as a kid I traveled a lot on family vacations to National Parks and other beautiful locations. In high school I got into B&W photography. After College I moved to Denver, CO and fell in love with hiking, getting really into it and did a little bit of backpacking. I went on many several day adventures to seek out more nature in the Colorado area. Since most of it was on my own I didn't do much backpacking. When with friends I didn't bring my heavy film camera from the 70's, since it would just slow me down even more. Now I have a really nice 20 MP Digital SLR camera that is pretty light although bulky but I don't have many people to hike with and a leg that is still healing. 20 years ago I was in a severe snowboarding injury and suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury. Several months after I learned how to walk again but slow to regain hiking. Thats when I got a DSLR camera and got to be creative and not spend the money on film and developing. The second summer afterwards I went on a backpacking trip with some friends that were very accommodating for me helping carry equipment and such. Even missing a ligament I was still able to cross a small creek on a fallen tree. (see pic below). I had my trekking pole but obviously didn't use it crossing on the tree. With a new digital SLR camera I had quality images and the ability to edit in Photoshop which I learned pretty good. I don't really edit very much just mainly bringing out detail in areas that are lacking pop or attention to detail. I went on a Photo workshop led by John Fielder a famous nature photographer in Colorado. I told him about my injury so he knew my limitations of my memory and going slow because of my knee. At the end I told him that I went to visit the ski patrol where I had my injury and brought my homemade pizza to share with them. I make the dough and did it all from scratch, except making the toppings. I went to his gallery a week later and said hi where I asked him if he would like to try some of my homemade pizza. (I had nothing to lose). Many months later he came over and I cooked a couple pizza and then asked near the end if he had any openings at his gallery. Whoa! He talked to the director of the gallery as he was the owner and wasn't running day to day operations. So I went in for an interview and got a job as a gallery assistant. After working there a year or so he invited me on a couple workshops for free to learn more. Later he asked me if I wanted to go backpacking. Hmmmm, let me think. :). I said yes and he brought 2 llamas to carry the load since I couldn't carry much and he was getting older (60's). It was a 3 night adventure and I think 25 miles total. Ten years ago I moved to Massachusetts to be closer to some family. I haven't been able to go on as many hikes recently as I don't know very many nature photography friends so I have been to many local parks that are just around the city I live in Haverhill, MA. I had another knee surgery summer of 2023 and that was complicated but went well. So far I have been doing good with that and doing quite a few short hikes without many problems. Just recently however I am noticing that my balance is still off after my surgery so the unsteadiness is from my brain injury. :( I hope I can find many beautiful places that aren't too far up the trails. In the past I have done some hiking and even backing with an adaptive sports organization. 'Waypoint Adventures'. I did offer them my snowshoes that I own since I don't want to use them now because my knee is doing much better and I don't want to lose that. Here I am crossing a creek with some good friends. I had my good camera and a large day backpack with just the basics in it. I had some nice friends. On a backpacking trip with the llamas my friend John handed me the rope and said he would take a photo. I wasn't leading them on the trip at all but during the trip they acted very calm and just carried on and ate the grass they saw and drank water. No need to bring food for them and we were near creeks and streams. Luckily not too much need for crossing anything major. We were in the Rawah Wilderness in the Northern part of the Front Range of Colorado.

Scott's NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY INFO My true passion for the outdoors came to be, when I spent much of my childhood traveling among the National Parks of the west coast, USA. This gave me ample opportunities to be enthralled by all of the intricacies I saw in nature around me. As I got older, I developed an interest in nature photography which became a cherished hobby during my years living in Colorado. I believe that being engulfed in nature is both a physical and emotional healing experience. I use my photos as a way to give the outside world a glimpse into its outstanding beauty. I recently have learned about a practice called 'Forest Bathing', which simply refers to spending time in the forest or nature being used as a form of 'medicine'. Taking in the forest atmosphere. Here is a website that explains more details: Forest Bathing (Time magazine) , and t here is a book listed there which I have and feel that it is very good at explaining how/why nature heals in so many ways we are not aware of. I feel that it has been very helpful in my life of challenging medical history and rehab. ...with my knee surgery in April of '23 and then the second because the first didn't work in July '23. So far its going good but not totally healed yet. We'll see, cross my fingers and do what PT and Dr say. Its not going to be perfect as the professional athletes show us by having reoccurring knee problems later in their careers. Will post something later as an update. More likely to post something on Facebook sooner. So check that out too. Link to Facebook is below. Subscribe Now Give Us Your Feedback We’d love to hear what you thought about us. Wildlife Here are some of my Wildlife photographs I have taken when living in Colorado 10-23 years ago and then a few out here in Massachusetts. Bighorn sheep Just outside Rocky Mountain National Park in a small town which is very wildlife friendlky. I think they have rules about which plants people can grow so they don't hurt the wildlife trying to keep them away from their garden. Llama This isn't technically wildlife as they were carrying our load on a backpacking trip through the wilderness for 3 nights. Deer Roxborough Park, foothills outside Denver, CO Deer Roxborough Park, foothills outside Denver, CO Deer Roxborough Park, foothills outside Denver, CO European Herring Gull Halibut Point State Park Rockport, MA Yellow-legged Gull and a Western Gull Halibut Point State Park Rockport, MA European Herring Gull Halibut State Park Rockport, MA Bighorn sheep near Estes Park, exploring the hillside Just outside Rocky Mountain National Park in a small town which is very wildlife conscious. Bald Eagle Bald Eagle Along the Colorado River Black Bear This is in the Tenmile Range near Breckenridge with the bear wandering across a dirt road near some cabins. Moose in Front Range Mountains Within the Rawah Wilderness in the nothern park of the state. Black-capped Chickadee I was given bird seed at a wildlife area with tons of small birds around. I got my phone first and get it eating out of my hand literally. Sometimes I have gotten dogs to eat out of my hand too but that isn't much 'ooooh, ahhh' type of comments Black-capped Chickadee Nobody else is here. Black-capped Chickadee Let me see here, hmm Moose in Front Range Mountains, Colorado This is on Guenella Pass in the Front Range, at 11-12k feet below a couple 14ers where several trailheads sit nearby.

  • New England | Photography

New England I moved to New England back in 2015 and have explored a little bit of the White Mountains and into Maine. Here I show how to capture nature without getting deep into the wilderness. Also some shots of little hikes in some parks just outside of Haverhill, MA where I live. A walk I would take my dog on where I brought my DSLR with me and tripod (just in case). Portland Headlight Lighthouse Nice sky with good color and a great place for a snack at the table to enjoy your view and get ready for the day. Cruise in Harbor near Portland Maine. Summer evening with beautiful light in Maine. Taking in peace of the evening in August 2015. Kenoza Lake in Winnnekenni Park A small tree sticking out into the middle of the picture. The reservoir has a very wavy edge to it isn't circle overall. Lake Gardner in Powow Conservation Area A small lake below a hill near Battis Farm and small holes to peak through to see the other side of the Lake. Sunrise at Winnekenni Park in Haverhill, MA While walking around the lake with my dog I noticed a sparkle through the trees. It dawned on me why I sometimes bring my tripod with me when I walk my dog. Photography is all about timing. The sun glistening behind a tree and then the reflection of the sun. Sunset at Winnekenni Park In Haverhill at sunset on a hike around the park. Found a perfect vantage point with the reflection of the colorful clouds. Riverside Park view of the Merrimack River. On a wintery morning after a good amount of snow overnight. I got closer to the Merrimack River as the sun rose. The snow was weighing down the branches to almost touch the water. I've looked more recently and the tree is not there. Dec 2019 Looking for a snack Hmm, that looks interesting. Do I trust him? A tiny bird comes in and decides to take a nibble. Its about the size of my thumb. Ipswich Wildlife Sanctuary. Eating out of my hand A small bird is eating out of my hand literally. I'm not sure the type of bird but it was at a Bird Sanctuary where they gave me some seeds and nature took care of the rest. I'm using my phone obviously. Anybody else there would scare the bird away for sure. Kenoza Lake Sunstars During a hike at Winnekenni park hike around the lake the sun was peaking through at about 6:30am Salisbury beach Beautiful beach near Portland Headlight Lighthouse. Swift River Cascades Along the Swift River along the Kancamagus highway in northern New Hampshire in the White Mountains. Seagull looking for lunch A seagull is crazing through the water looking for something. I just barely caught it Seagulls on shore The seagulls were flying back from the ocean probably looking for a place to rest where someone left some snacks behind. Seagulls soaring Late afternoon loop around the island. Acadia National Park Looking around for some good foreground I found some grass and fall colors behind and some rocks sticking out in the middle. Lake with grass Near the edge of the lake we have some grass growing with a rock nearby. This is a beautiful cemetery with a small creek on the far side and tall trees setting the view. Galleries Here are my galleries from growing up in California, college in Arizona and then Colorado for 14 years. Almost 10 years ago I moved out here to Massachusetts to be closer to family. I really miss Colorado and the open space and a little bit of solitude, but I have heard things have changed pretty drastically as far as overcrowded and pollution/smog. I still see myself going back to visit sometime in the near future if I can afford it. So many memories and unique landscapes different from most other places. I want to bring others and show them my favorite places and maybe try something new at lower elevations. I'm not as young as I used to be. Also living at 150 ft elevation won't help. I visited back in 2017 without any problems. Colorado Hiking & Camping New England Western Wildlife

Unique nature photographs, prints, wildflowers, mountains, Colorado New England Western Wildlife Hiking & Camping Welcome I have a passion for nature. Its so soothing and can be very calm to help break away from everyday life in the real world of chaos. Even with other visitors it can still be relaxing with families playing and discovering new things. Teaching others is rewarding by looking for a different perspective and go to the other side of the meadow. This photograph is from a local park nearby at Kenoza Lake in Haverhill, MA that I have been hiking at pretty frequently since graduating from my rehab after my knee surgery which was in 2023. Now I am finding more places and going with some friends as well. Winter comes and I am not going to snowshoe because of everything I have gone through. I think I will donate my snowshoes to an adaptive sports business if I can go on a backpacking trip for disabled participants. I want to take take 'star trails' photos which are 45+ minute exposures. You can see some examples on my site so click on the hiking and camping link. Give some feedback Fill in as little or as much as you wish.
