Wildlife Here are some of my Wildlife photographs I have taken when living in Colorado 10-23 years ago and then a few out here in Massachusetts. Bighorn sheep Just outside Rocky Mountain National Park in a small town which is very wildlife friendlky. I think they have rules about which plants people can grow so they don't hurt the wildlife trying to keep them away from their garden. Llama This isn't technically wildlife as they were carrying our load on a backpacking trip through the wilderness for 3 nights. Deer Roxborough Park, foothills outside Denver, CO Deer Roxborough Park, foothills outside Denver, CO Deer Roxborough Park, foothills outside Denver, CO European Herring Gull Halibut Point State Park Rockport, MA Yellow-legged Gull and a Western Gull Halibut Point State Park Rockport, MA European Herring Gull Halibut State Park Rockport, MA Bighorn sheep near Estes Park, exploring the hillside Just outside Rocky Mountain National Park in a small town which is very wildlife conscious. I think they have rules about which plants people can grow so they don't hurt the wildlife by trying to keep them away from their garden. Bald Eagle Bald Eagle Along the Colorado River Black Bear This is in the Tenmile Range near Breckenridge with the bear wandering across a dirt road near some cabins. Moose in Front Range Mountains Within the Rawah Wilderness in the nothern park of the state. Black-capped Chickadee I was given bird seed at a wildlife area with tons of small birds around. I got my phone first and get it eating out of my hand literally. Sometimes I have gotten dogs to eat out of my hand too but that isn't much 'ooooh, ahhh' type of comments Black-capped Chickadee Nobody else is here. Black-capped Chickadee Let me see here, hmm Moose in Front Range Mountains, Colorado This is on Guenella Pass in the Front Range, at 11-12k feet below a couple 14ers where several trailheads sit nearby.

Colorado Here is my Colorado page. I moved to Colorado in 2001 after graduating college and discovered the wonderful world of wilderness in the mountains. I already had experience of nature photography but here is where I decided to get into it and do exploring myself. I did lots of hiking and camping with a little bit of backpacking to capture the wonders. I even became friends with John Fielder who was a an awesome professional Nature photographer himself and I learned a lot from him. We did several hikes and camping trips as well. One backpacking trips with two Llamas even, to carry our heavy load for 4 nights. In the first 4 years in Colorado I used slide film exclusively because of the cost of digital cameras and the technology wasn't there yet for pros to use. In 2005 I got my first DSLR. Colorado Columbine The state flower of Colorado. The focus is on the bright yellow stamen in the center of the flower Aspen Leaves Aspen leaves on the forest floor still with good color and some rain to top it off. Not something you see often are the colors while leaves are on the ground. Doesn't last once they are off the tree. Boulder Falls Early winter with the water flowing well but ice everywhere. Just outside the town of Boulder up into the foothills. Hallet Peak from Dream Lake Hallet Peak sits above Dream Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park. One of my favorite snowshoe hikes as it was relatively easy and not too busy if I went on a week day afternoon. Ice Lake, just over 12,000 ft Turquoise blue lake in the San Juan mountains above treeline and the only water going into the lake is the ice melt. Rock flour forms from finely ground rock which floats on the surface and reflects the blue sky above. Cottonwood Pass Sunset Camping near Cottonwood Pass in south central Colorado mountains. Pass is a little over 12,000 ft and only open in the summer and fall with great colors. I got this shot first then the camp one with my tent. Cottonwood Pass Camp Beautiful sunset where I set up camp just in time to get this photo. Pretty sure I did it in a hurry. The other shot I took first then 3 minutes later this shot. I love to get some shots of my tent in the majestic scenes I capture. A painter below the Maroon Bells mountains near Aspen, CO. If you look closely at the painting you can see the mountain if you know the Colorado mountains at all. Tent set up in the rugged mountains in the wilderness High up around 12,000 ft and below some 13ers Camp in wilderness Here is my tent in the wilderness on some of the only level ground nearby and minimal large rocks. Bald Eagle above river Bald Eagle above the Colorado River where we took a break and went up a hillside to get this shot. Moose This is a moose in the Front Range on Guanella Pass. Very large it stands above the brush for clear visibility Ice Lake in the San Juan mountains This area has several 13k ft peaks nearby. Rock flour forms as things begin to warm and glaciers melt, filling up the basin with water. The finely ground rock is so light that it floats near the lake's surface where it reflects the blue sky back to our eyes. Ice Lake, San Juan mountains This beautiful lake sits a little over 12,000 ft near Telluride. Rock flour forms as the glacier melts, filling up the basin with water. Without sun the surface looks a little blue but not bold turquoise. Wildflower hike near Breckenridge On a wildflower hike with my friend John Fielder. We are up in the mountains with some puffy gray clouds to make it interesting and better lighting Lower Cataract Lake area Nearby lower cataract lake in the central mountains. Sheep in Rocky Mountain National Park The sheep are very plentiful in the area roaming around near the visitors. Paradise Divide Just outside Crested Butte on a one way 4wd mountain pass. So beautiful with fall colors in the fall and spring flowers in early summer. Longs Moonset 2-3 days after the full moon I hiked up Twin Sisters with a friend before sunrise to capture the moon setting in the West right at dawn behind Longs Peak in the Front Range. Longs Peak Moonset Here is the moon setting right behind Mt Meeker which is directly beside Longs. You have to line up in advance so the moon is directly behind the peak itself....only problem comes when there is a cliff blocking the perfect location. A black bear just outside Breckenridge I was heading from my car to a cabin and saw the bear crossing the dirt road so I went to the edge of parking lot and snapped a few photos. It just crossed the road to the other side so no worries Paradise Divide cropped A briliant red color and reflection Calypso Orchid Beautiful wildflower with what seems in my mind as a nice smile with the black dots and then the petals as the smile. Francie's Cabin just outside Breckenridge This cabin is in the forest a little ways out of the ski town. Very historic and quaint. Full times taking the photo outside of the night sky for for 2 hrs. Someone turned on a light at 1:30am but thats fine. Windy Ridge Bristlecone Pine tree laying on its side This tree is several thousand years old and it survives the windy mountain ridge with its extreme ruggedness

New England I moved to New England back in 2015 and have explored a little bit of the White Mountains and into Maine. Here I show how to capture nature without getting deep into the wilderness. Also some shots of little hikes in some parks just outside of Haverhill, MA where I live. A walk I would take my dog on where I brought my DSLR with me and tripod (just in case). Portland Headlight Lighthouse Nice sky with good color and a great place for a snack at the table to enjoy your view and get ready for the day. Cruise in Harbor near Portland Maine. Summer evening with beautiful light in Maine. Taking in peace of the evening in August 2015. Kenoza Lake in Winnnekenni Park A small tree sticking out into the middle of the picture. The reservoir has a very wavy edge to it isn't circle overall. Lake Gardner in Powow Conservation Area A small lake below a hill near Battis Farm and small holes to peak through to see the other side of the Lake. Sunrise at Winnekenni Park in Haverhill, MA While walking around the lake with my dog I noticed a sparkle through the trees. It dawned on me why I sometimes bring my tripod with me when I walk my dog. Photography is all about timing. The sun glistening behind a tree and then the reflection of the sun. Sunset at Winnekenni Park In Haverhill at sunset on a hike around the park. Found a perfect vantage point with the reflection of the colorful clouds. Riverside Park view of the Merrimack River. On a wintery morning after a good amount of snow overnight. I got closer to the Merrimack River as the sun rose. The snow was weighing down the branches to almost touch the water. I've looked more recently and the tree is not there. Dec 2019 Looking for a snack Hmm, that looks interesting. Do I trust him? A tiny bird comes in and decides to take a nibble. Its about the size of my thumb. Ipswich Wildlife Sanctuary. Eating out of my hand A small bird is eating out of my hand literally. I'm not sure the type of bird but it was at a Bird Sanctuary where they gave me some seeds and nature took care of the rest. I'm using my phone obviously. Anybody else there would scare the bird away for sure. Kenoza Lake Sunstars During a hike at Winnekenni park hike around the lake the sun was peaking through at about 6:30am Salisbury beach Beautiful beach near Portland Headlight Lighthouse. Swift River Cascades Along the Swift River along the Kancamagus highway in northern New Hampshire in the White Mountains. Seagull looking for lunch A seagull is crazing through the water looking for something. I just barely caught it Seagulls on shore The seagulls were flying back from the ocean probably looking for a place to rest where someone left some snacks behind. Seagulls soaring Late afternoon loop around the island. Acadia National Park Looking around for some good foreground I found some grass and fall colors behind and some rocks sticking out in the middle. Lake with grass Near the edge of the lake we have some grass growing with a rock nearby. Yellow Tulip Steven Coolidge Place North Andover, Massachusetts https://thetrustees.org/place/stevens-coolidge-house-and-gardens/ Grafton Notch State Park Some of Maine's most spectacular mountains of the Mahoosuc Range. Rugged terrain including 12 miles of the Appalachian Trail Portland Headlight Lighthouse Sunrise at 5:03am in July '16. Cape Elizabeth, Maine Solar Eclipse by Cemetery in Haverhill, MA. This is a beautiful cemetery with a small creek on the far side and tall trees setting the view. The eclipse is happening behind the trees as the moon is setting and the sun is rising behind me at 5:32am on 11-08-2022

Hiking & Camping Here is my page of my hiking adventures mainly in Colorado and a couple trips to Utah. These are all taken with my DSLR of my trips. If I had a good cell phone back when I used film I could have taken a lot more snapshots of the nearby landscape without taking time to set up the tripod. Now I use my phone for the GPS, camera and taking notes and planning. Of course charging it at night if I get the chance, with my USB charger of course not my car or hotel. Perfect sunrise, Rawah Wilderness in marsh area This was on a backpacking trip with my friend John and we caught a great sunrise with great colors at 6am. Rawah Wilderness backpacking trip with John. I went on a 4 day hike with my friend John Fielder to capture nature pictures. It was awesome but a little bit of rain. We didn't have to haul a heavy load since we had llamas carrying most of the heavy load. Backpacking with Llamas in Rawah Wilderness I was with my friend John Fielder backpacking through the Rawah Wilderness in the northern part of the Front Range of Colorado. These Llamas carried our heavy load of overnight gear. We carried stuff that we needed frequently. Waiting for sunrise People all lined up to take the exact same shot. I stepped to the right and you can see my shot in the Western Gallery Windy Ridge backpacking Near the Bristlecone Pine Scenic Area inside the Pike National Forest Muddy Trail near Lower Cataract Lake This lake is not up a steep hill that will test your hearts limits. Very scenic area with many wildflowers Maroon Bells Scott & Jackie I took my mom on a wonderful moderate hike into the mountains up around 10,000 ft. Weather was perfect which made it possible. We went up to Crater lake right below the Maroon Bells in the Wilderness. View of trail up Mt Lincoln. On a different day I went up to the right of the mountain, then up a slope just to the right of dead center of the pic seems like a 45º angle (but it wan't) and down in the middle of two ridges and down to the lake where hail started to fall. Definitely the hardest mountain I have climbed mainly because of the route we took. Mt Lincoln- route The red is the route I went up. The yellow is the route down which was less steep although still rock hopping quite a bit. Once we got down the steep section right above the lake it started hailing. We got so lucky. I did this when I was about 24 yrs old. Very strong and fairly good coordination. Shrine Pass in the Holy Cross Wilderness This is a 12 minute exposure of the tent and stars spinning around the north star which above the tent and near the top.

Galleries Here are my galleries from growing up in California, college in Arizona and then Colorado for 14 years. Almost 10 years ago I moved out here to Massachusetts to be closer to family. I really miss Colorado and the open space and a little bit of solitude, but I have heard things have changed pretty drastically as far as overcrowded and pollution/smog. I still see myself going back to visit sometime in the near future if I can afford it. So many memories and unique landscapes different from most other places. I want to bring others and show them my favorite places and maybe try something new at lower elevations. I'm not as young as I used to be. Also living at 150 ft elevation won't help. I visited back in 2017 without any problems. Colorado Hiking & Camping New England Western Wildlife
